Microneedling (collagen-induction therapy) uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing response to build new collagen and elastin. It is used to improve acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, and overall skin texture, usually over a short series of sessions with minimal downtime.

How does microneedling work?

A device with tiny sterile needles creates microscopic channels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries prompt the skin to repair itself, producing fresh collagen and elastin that smooth texture, soften scars, and firm the skin over time. The channels also allow better absorption of medical-grade serums applied during treatment.

What can microneedling treat?

  • Acne scars and other atrophic scars
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture
  • Dullness and mild laxity

It can be combined with PRP or medical-grade serums to enhance results.

What to expect and timeline

A typical plan is about 3–6 sessions spaced roughly 4 weeks apart. Skin may look pink or flushed (like a mild sunburn) for 1–2 days. Collagen remodels gradually, so results continue improving over several weeks to months. Sun protection is important afterward.

Who is a good candidate?

Most skin types can be treated. A consultation confirms suitability, especially for active acne, certain skin conditions, or a tendency to pigment changes.

Risks and safety

Performed by trained clinicians, microneedling has a strong safety profile. Temporary redness, swelling, or dryness can occur; proper technique and aftercare reduce risks.

Frequently asked questions

Does microneedling hurt?

A numbing cream is typically applied; most people feel only mild prickling or pressure.

How many sessions will I need?

Commonly 3–6, spaced about a month apart, with maintenance as desired.

Is there downtime?

Usually minimal — redness for a day or two is most common.
