A Physician-Led Medical Spa 7.6 Miles From San Carlos
San Carlos is not short of options. There are two dermatology groups in the city and a national laser chain. So we will make the case on what is actually different rather than pretend there is a gap.
What is different here
We are a single-physician practice. Dr. Susan Lin has been at the same San Mateo address for over 18 years, was board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and has practised medicine since 1991. Your consultation is with her.
In a larger group you may see a different provider from one visit to the next, and at a laser chain treatment is typically delivered by nurses or technicians. Both are legitimate models. Ours is that you see the same doctor every time, who knows what was done last visit and how you responded to it — which matters more with injectables than with almost anything else, because dosing is cumulative and individual.
We also carry a wider aesthetic menu than a laser-focused clinic: injectables, laser and IPL, peels, microneedling, PRP, thread lifts, ThermiVa and medical weight loss under one roof.
Getting here
7.6 miles. By Caltrain it is ten minutes with three intermediate stops — though San Carlos is a Local-only stop with 75 weekday trains, so check the timetable. From San Mateo station it is about a 15-minute walk.
Driving is straightforward, and parking here is free and on-site — worth noting if you are used to the Laurel Street area, where the 700 block has been a permanent car-free pedestrian mall since the end of 2023.
Central Silicon Valley, without the drive into San Francisco
Many people on the Peninsula assume the good options are in San Francisco, and that getting there means bridge traffic and a garage. We are in the middle of the Peninsula, reachable from Interstate 280 or US-101, with private on-site parking at no cost. San Mateo Caltrain station is 0.80 miles away, about a 15-minute walk.
The same physician, for over 18 years
MD Laser and Cosmetics was founded in 2006 and has been at this San Mateo address for over 18 years. Your consultation is with Dr. Susan Lin herself, trained in obstetrics and gynecology and practising since 1991. She is fluent in Mandarin. She performs every treatment personally. Most patients come for Botox, Dysport and dermal fillers, with an emphasis on natural results. We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00, by appointment. The $150 new-patient consultation is applied toward same-day treatment, in person or by video.

Questions from San Carlos patients
Why travel when there are providers here?
Mostly because you want the same physician each time rather than whoever is available, and because injectable dosing works better when one person tracks it visit to visit. If proximity matters more to you than continuity, the local options are good ones.
Do you do more than injectables?
Yes — laser hair removal, IPL, chemical peels, microneedling, PRP, thread lifts, ThermiVa and medically supervised weight loss.
How long does the journey take?
About 7.6 miles by car, or ten minutes on Caltrain plus a 15-minute walk.
