A Physician-Led Medical Spa 1.3 Miles From Burlingame

MD Laser and Cosmetics sits at 448 N San Mateo Drive, about a mile and a half south of Burlingame Avenue. For most Burlingame patients it is a four-turn drive on surface streets — no freeway at any point, which matters more than it sounds right now.

Getting here from Burlingame

The drive is roughly 1.3 miles and takes about three minutes outside peak hours, straight down El Camino Real or California Drive.

Your route never touches US-101 or Highway 92. That is worth knowing, because the US-101/SR-92 interchange is in the middle of a reconstruction that runs into summer 2028 and Caltrans has documented substantial peak-hour delays through it. Patients coming from Foster City or Redwood Shores are sitting in that. Burlingame patients are not.

When you arrive there is private on-site parking at no cost — not metered street parking, which anyone who parks on Burlingame Avenue will appreciate.

If you would rather take the train

Burlingame is the adjacent Caltrain stop to San Mateo. The ride is three minutes.

Two things worth knowing, though. The working station is at 290 California Drive — Burlingame’s second station, at Broadway, has had no weekday service since August 2005, and the $615 million grade-separation project approved for that corridor does not restore it. A with-station design was costed at $889 million and not funded.

And Burlingame is a Local-only stop: 75 weekday trains, against 104 at Millbrae and Hillsdale, which also get Limited and Express service.

From San Mateo station it is 0.80 miles to our door, about a 15-minute walk.

So honestly: the train works, but for a 1.3-mile trip it is about 25 minutes of walking either side of a three-minute ride. Most Burlingame patients drive, and we would suggest the same unless you are already on the train.

Choosing between a physician-led practice and a clinic chain

Burlingame has several aesthetic providers, and most of the larger ones are national or regional chains where treatments are delivered by nurses, nurse practitioners or laser technicians.

We are a physician-led practice, and your consultation is with Dr. Susan Lin herself. Whether that is the right difference for you is your call to make — but it is worth knowing which you are choosing.

Central Silicon Valley, without the drive into San Francisco

Many people on the Peninsula assume the good options are in San Francisco, and that getting there means bridge traffic and a garage. We are in the middle of the Peninsula, reachable from Interstate 280 or US-101, with private on-site parking at no cost. San Mateo Caltrain station is 0.80 miles away, about a 15-minute walk.

The same physician, for over 18 years

MD Laser and Cosmetics was founded in 2006 and has been at this San Mateo address for over 18 years. Your consultation is with Dr. Susan Lin herself, trained in obstetrics and gynecology and practising since 1991. She is fluent in Mandarin. She performs every treatment personally. Most patients come for Botox, Dysport and dermal fillers, with an emphasis on natural results. We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00, by appointment. The $150 new-patient consultation is applied toward same-day treatment, in person or by video.
