A Physician-Led Medical Spa 6.4 Miles From Redwood Shores

Redwood Shores has no aesthetic-medicine provider at all. The only spa on the peninsula is esthetician-delivered, with no injectables, no lasers and no medical director. So anyone here considering Botox, Dysport or filler is travelling regardless — the only question is which direction.

Getting here

Northbound on US-101 using the Express Lanes, then off at East 3rd Avenue. 6.4 miles. Be aware that this route runs through the stretch where Caltrans is rebuilding the US-101 and Highway 92 interchange, a project scheduled into summer 2028 — so allow extra time at commute hours.

The alternative direction is San Francisco, which is the drive most people here are trying to avoid — bridge and city traffic, then a garage or a meter. We are the other way, and parking is free and on-site.

There is no rail station in Redwood Shores; this is a driving trip.

Built around a working day that mostly happens at home

Redwood Shores has the highest work-from-home rate of anywhere we serve — over a third of working residents — along with one of the highest rates of degree attainment. Practically, that means a weekday appointment at a fixed time is realistic, and it is worth booking mid-morning or early afternoon rather than fighting the commute at either end.

What people come to us for

Mostly Botox and Dysport, and dermal fillers. We use Dysport preferentially — in our experience it lasts longer and looks more natural — and all our fillers are hyaluronic acid based, so they are reversible.

The practice has been at the same San Mateo address for over 18 years, and it is physician-led. Your consultation is with Dr. Lin herself.

Central Silicon Valley, without the drive into San Francisco

Many people on the Peninsula assume the good options are in San Francisco, and that getting there means bridge traffic and a garage. We are in the middle of the Peninsula, reachable from Interstate 280 or US-101, with private on-site parking at no cost. San Mateo Caltrain station is 0.80 miles away, about a 15-minute walk.

The same physician, for over 18 years

MD Laser and Cosmetics was founded in 2006 and has been at this San Mateo address for over 18 years. Your consultation is with Dr. Susan Lin herself, trained in obstetrics and gynecology and practising since 1991. She is fluent in Mandarin. She performs every treatment personally. Most patients come for Botox, Dysport and dermal fillers, with an emphasis on natural results. We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00, by appointment. The $150 new-patient consultation is applied toward same-day treatment, in person or by video.

Questions from Redwood Shores patients

What is the fastest route?

Northbound 101 using the Express Lanes, off at East 3rd Avenue. It passes through the 101/92 roadworks area, so leave extra time at commute hours.

Why not just go into San Francisco?

You can, and some people do. But it is bridge and city traffic each way plus parking at the other end, for a treatment that often takes less time than the journey. We are 6.4 miles away with free parking on site.

Do you offer video consultations?

Yes, if you would rather discuss options before making the trip.
